Gothenburg: Swedish city break by the sea

Untold Morsels
Jul 27
Sweden's second city Gothenburg is a fun city break - go island hopping, wander the old town and enjoy the coffee scene

Take a boat cruise around the Gothenburg canals

Paddan sightseeing boats are a great way to get your bearings of the city. Departing from near the Saluhallen food market, the tour takes you under 20 of the cities bridges including a very low one.. watch your head!

You will pass Gothenburg's famous landmarks: the Botanic Gardens, Feskekörka fish market and busy working harbour.

Island hopping the archipelago

Take a ferry from the port of Saltholmen - it's an easy tram ride from near the main train station. From there you can explore the 20 islands that make up Gothenburg's southern archipelago.

We loved pretty Donsö where Scandinavian red huts line the harbour. There are a few shops and cafes to visit there or you could find a swimming hole for a quick dip.

Scandinavia's biggest amusement park - Liseberg

The Scandinavians know how to do an amusement park that appeals to thrill seekers and children alike. Liseberg is a fun place to spend a few hours. The queues are short and the rides are a mixture of modern rollercoasters to classic favourites inspired by the rides from when the park opened in 1924 .
