Kanykumari, the name comes from the Devi Kanya Kumari Temple in the region. It is the southernmost tip of India, and is surrounded on three sides by the Laccadive Sea. It is a small town, but it can help you to get happiness and a spiritual experience. The place we stayed was peaceful, you could hear the sound of sea waves at night.
The Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a popular tourist monument in Vavathurai, Kanyakumari, India. It was built in 1970 in honour of Swami Vivekananda who is said to have attained enlightenment on the rock. The memorial stands on one of two rocks located about 500 metres east of the mainland of Vavathurai, India's southernmost tip. A meditation hall (Dhyana Mandapam) is also attached to the memorial for visitors to meditate. The design of the mandapa incorporates different styles of temple architecture from all over India. It houses a statue of Vivekananda. The rocks are surrounded by the Laccadive Sea. You have to take waterway to reach the memorial.
The Thiruvalluvar Statue has a stature of 95 feet (29 m) and stands upon a 38 foot (11.5 m) shake that speaks to the 38 parts of "virtue" in the Thirukkural. The consolidated stature of the statue and platform is 133 feet (40.5 m), indicating the 133 sections in the Thirukkural. It has an aggregate weight of 7000 tons. You cannot see this statue from the statue but you get great view of surroundings and Vivekananda Rock Memorial. The statue, with its slight curve around the abdomen is reminiscent of a moving posture of the old Indian divinities like Nataraja. Its opening function was on 1 January 2000. The landmark was hit by the Indian Ocean Tsunami on 26 December 2004.
There are many small places where you can visit such as Gandhi Memorial Mandapam, Tsunami Memorial Park, Bhagavathy Amman Temple (3000-year-old temple), etc. I would suggest you to spend most of your time on beach, because it is beautiful, refreshing and it makes you feel alive.
Kanyakumari Beach is the point where Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian sea. Though there is no visible sign or colour of the sea water to demarcate their boundaries and distinguish the actual meeting point, but the change in color is visible.
You can see sun set from the sunset point. You will get auto rickshaw to reach there. The waves are gigantic pounding onto tremendous shakes however the sunset view is stunning. The shoreline territory has a decent stop with loads of food stalls and gift shops. However that day it was cloudy but as per the tourists and locals recommendations, it is one of the best sunset that one can see.
