This city is so popular tourist destination because of its tropical climate and access to the Great Barrier Reef, which is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. The Great Barrier Reef located just in 40 km from Cairns. Furthermore, Cairns is unabashedly geared towards tourism. It is awash with bars, clubs, eateries and cafes suiting all budgets. There's no beach in town, but on the northern parts, you will find some nice places.
Be aware there are poisonous jellyfish present in the waters around Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef at various times during the year (from November to May) so Esplanade Lagoon will more convenient for swimming at that time.
It's only one aquarium in the world dedicated exclusively to the habitats and species of tropical North Queensland. Every visit is unforgettable. There are you will find more than 15,000 animals and unique fish. Lots of opportunities will open to move up close to some of the world’s most fascinating, elusive or deadly creatures.
It is a majestic 260-meter steep tiered cascade waterfall on the Barron River. Granite-faced waterfall is one of Cairns’ most iconic landmarks. The Falls are at their most spectacular during the wet season in Cairns, which is December through to March. The majestic Barron Falls literally come alive during tropical rains.
It is one of Australia’s most picturesque sites, with stunning scenery, and abundant flora and fauna; in particular, you’ll find the vast majority of Australia’s bat and butterfly species here. This triumph of natural wonder and awe-inspiring beauty reveals hidden riches and inspirational insights. High quality guided interpreted walking tours showcase the unique biological diversity and exceptional rainforest integrity.
It is a 7.5 km scenic cableway running above the Barron Gorge National Park, in the Wet Tropics of Queensland’s World Heritage Area. North of Cairns, it has won more than 25 awards. Skyrail Rainforest Cableway journeys through the world's oldest continually surviving rainforest on earth, older than the Amazon Rainforest.
Also through the rainforest passes a usual railway which was built over 120 years ago and is now used as a tourist railway. My advice is to use both ways of transportation then the astonishing scenery makes it a must on your Cairns itinerary.
Australia's diving incites many people’s dream to dive Great Barrier Reef – the world’s largest and healthiest coral reef system.
