Donovan’s a full-time ‘wanderluster' whose wish is to explore each and every country in the world during his lifetime.
He describes himself as a road tripper, beach boy, adventurer, daredevil, mountaineer, foodie, heritage lover, and a polyglot. Now that's a mouthful!
Donovan feels that the world’s a mystery waiting to be unravelled. He believes in being a citizen of the world, and trying to understand the intertwined cultures of each country.
In another world, there would not be national and political boundaries. Besides his day job, Donovan’s also the author of Donstravels. Check out his IQPlanner profile here.
Why did you start travel blogging? How long have you been doing it?
I started blogging because I was sick of repeating my stories, especially when my friends asked me for tips to the same places. So I conveniently directed them to my blog. I started in 2013, so that makes it almost 4 years.
I combine my passion for travelling and also sharing my travel adventures with my readers, instead of just publicising picture perfect photos because often, it’s the stories behind such adventures that give my trip a more humane side.
Name your top 3 most memorable places?
Mongolia, Lesotho and Antarctica.
What’s the best thing about being a travel blogger?
I get to travel the world and use my blog as a lens to inspire my readers to travel or for them to learn more about the world we live in.
It’s particularly important if they cannot travel as much due to commitments or mobility issues.
And the worst?! (if there is one)
I was robbed on the overnight train from Serbia to Bulgaria, and arrived in the middle of winter with my shoes stolen.
That said, I had to walk to the nearest shop in my slippers to get a new pair of shoes!
Give your top tip to a blogger starting out
Include many pictures in your article, and of course, create an account first!
Hotel freebies: take ‘em’ or leave ‘em’?
I take only the essential stuff, but I seldom stay in hotels anyway because it’s not my style of travelling.
What’s at the top of your list for destinations this year?
Why should people subscribe to your page?
To learn how I’ve managed to travel all 7 continents by the age of 25
What’s the most unusual thing you’ve eaten on your travels?
Whale meat in Norway
Name a place, city, or country where you feel happiest?
While Norway may be the happiest country in the world, I found Selfoss, Iceland to be my happy pill.
Where’s your next adventure?
I'm off to Cuba and Mexico this summer!
